Spelling-First 10 words in spicy sentences. The students were given time to start these in class. We're looking for:
-the spelling word to be spelled correctly in a spicy sentence
-a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence
-an end mark
-personal best spelling for the other words in the sentence (some spicy sentences have hard words to spell....these don't have to be spelled 100% correctly as long as we can figure out what they say.

Spelling for Week of 10/28
The spelling words last week with the silent letter (w, k, g) proved very difficult for about half of the students. So for those students, we will re-do the words from last week with some extra practice and exercises this week. The spelling test re-do for those students will be on Wednesday, October 30th. For those who do not need to re-do (got 3 or less wrong on test), they will work on book reports.

Field Trip Thursday!
Remember...Field Trip to Morton Arboretum on Thursday 10/24. It will be COLD! Please get out those winter/waterproof boots, warm socks, winter coats, mittens, hats and scarves! We will be outside all morning. Dress in layers! Send a sack lunch with a disposable drink (no pop or candy please!).

Important Dates to Remember!
Friday, October 18th - A parent is coming in early Friday to teach us more about Frank Lloyd Wright. Then we have the FUN RUN from 10-11 am. If you are available, come cheer for your students. Also, one of our students is moving to another classroom, so Friday is his last day. We will have a little going away celebration Friday afternoon.
Monday, October 21st - KONA ICE Party! Since the school reached it's fundraising goal for the Fun Run, we all get to enjoy some Kona Ice! Thanks to all who participated and donated money to the school!
Wednesday, October 23rd - Room Parent Meeting at 2:00. The following parents have signed up to be room parents for the class:
Jean G., Doreen C., Cara C., Linda S., Monica N., Anne F., Jen K. and Laura M-B. I know some of you aren't available, but if I can get a few to come to plan the Halloween party, you can e-mail the rest of the parents/class with the information discussed. Please let me know who is available to attend. We will need some activities, crafts, games, so please come to the room parent meeting ready with ideas! I will need one room parent to be the class treasurer. You will be in charge of the class party money that has been collected (I think all but 2 students have contributed). This money will be spent between the four parties this year (Halloween, Winter Holidays, Valentine's Day and end of year picnic) on things that don't get donated by the families. The class has a good supply of paper goods and reusables, so that won't need to be purchased.
Thursday, October 24th - Morton Arboretum Field Trip. Please have your students dress for the weather, as we will be outside rain or shine (or snow!). They should dress in layers with good walking shoes that might get muddy . They will be responsible for carrying anything they bring. All students need a sack lunch, no sugary snacks or soda, but enough healthy food to give them energy to be outside all day. Buses leave at 8:30 and return around 2:00. I will send another e-mail to the 4 parents who volunteered to chaperone.
Friday, October 25th - Mini Museums - A parent will be coming in to help the students make mini museums!
Thursday, October 31st - Halloween. We will have class from 8 am to 12 noon, then lunch from noon to 12:55. Students are permitted to go home for lunch to change into costumes as long as I receive a note in the morning. Otherwise, I will be in the room during lunch to help students get ready. The parade around the school will start around 1:15 then we will be back in the room for the party until school is dismissed at 2:55. If any students choose not to participate in the parade or party, they will go to the library for alternate activities.
Friday, November 1st - My last day :(

Tell a Story in Order
When telling a story, start at the beginning. This may not be the beginning of your day. If the event happened in the middle of the day, start there. Introduce enough of the event so that we have some background, but we don't need to know about your breakfast (if it's got nothing to do with the main part of your story).
For example:
For example:
This was the big day of our youth group field trip. Me, Adam, Roxanne, and some other friends
were going to the Amlings Haunted House.
It was cool because they had carnival rides as well. After going through the haunted house (and
listening to Adam scream like a girl) we came outside to enjoy some rides. Even though I was nervous, I went on the RING
OF FIRE twice and was surprisingly fine.
You see, I’m one of those that gets motion sickness, and I mean really
bad. I thought my good luck would
continue on the Tilt-a-Whirl, but BOY was I wrong!
Bright Beginnings in Writing
Capture my readers’ attention: Bright Beginning
·
It started off with a breakfast of scrambled
eggs. Normally, you wouldn’t care what I
ate for breakfast, but unfortunately, today it matters.
·
Have you ever been on a tilt a whirl before? Some think its fun, but it ended up not being
so fun for me.
·
BARF! That
was pretty much the highlight of my day at the Amlings Haunted House.
·
Have you ever gotten so embarrassed that you didn’t
think you could show your face again at school?
I have. It all started with a
breakfast of scrambled eggs…
·
One of the worst days of my childhood started off

Their main words should describe their break. The bigger the word, the more important or more often the activity occurred over break. They've created a wordle with me at school, and we went over this extensively so hopefully they understand what to do.
