Halloween Party!

Need we say more?!

Morton Arboretum

We had a beautiful, but cold, fall day!  We learned a lot in our Eco Explorers Unit.  Half of the day inside, lunch in the tent, and the other half looking at some cool stuff-living and non living-under a microscope.  What a great day!

Mr. Satcher-Guest Reader!

Mr. Satcher read us a couple of great books!  We had a blast listening!  Thanks for coming in!

Lincoln FUN RUN!

Even though we had a rainy day, the kiddos had a blast!  Check out their speedy quick feet!

I'm still not feeling well, and will have a substitute on Friday.  Looking forward to seeing everyone again on Monday.

No math or spelling.  We're finishing up on the math test tomorrow.

Science/Reading homework-Discuss in your science journal the migrations that Monarchs take (as well as other animals if you chose). Where do they start?  Where do they end?  Why do they migrate?  How do they know where to go? are just some of the possible questions you can discuss.  Please also write a short entry about the butterfly's life cycle.  Describe the four stages, and any details you're aware of in each stage.  Illustrations are always welcome. :)

Spelling- Next 10 words in spicy sentences

Math- Home Links p.229

We've been working really hard on subtracting with regrouping and it can be a little frustrating.  Here are the steps/lingo we've been using in class.

1.  Look at the ones (the little bitties).  Can you subtract them?  If not, you need to regroup.
2.  Knock on Mr. Tens door, "Mr. Ten, can we please take one of you?"
3.  Cross out the number in the tens and replace it with one less.  Mr. Ten breaks himself apart and gives 10 ones.
4.  Cross out the number in the ones and replace it with the 10 ones PLUS whatever was already there.
5.  Now subtract the ones.
6.  Look at the tens.  Can you subtract them?  If not, you need to regroup.
7.  Knock on Mr. Hundred's door, "Mr. Hundred, can we please take one of you?"
3.  Cross out the number in the hundreds and replace it with one less.  Mr. Hundred breaks himself apart and gives 10 tens.
4.  Cross out the number in the tens and replace it with the 10 tens PLUS whatever was already there.
5.  Now subtract the tens.
6.  Subtract the hundreds.
